51 Canadian fellowships for Indian graduate students

Canada will give over 50 fellowships and funds worth more than $4 million to Indian graduate students and institutional partners as part of its steps to boost educational ties between the two countries.

Meeting their their Indian counterparts in New Delhi at a roundtable, 15 presidents of various Canadian universities, who are currently in India on a seven-day mission, announced up to 51 graduate fellowships worth $3.5 million for Indian students to pursue studies in Canada.

IGNOU launches diabetes training programme

The programme will be open to medical graduates looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in the area of medical diabetology.

IGNOU opens evaluation centre in Lucknow

The Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Prof V N Rajasekharan Pillai, inaugurated the studio of GyanVani FM Radio Station and university’s North Zone Evaluation Centre building in Lucknow on Saturday.

The GyanVani FM 105.6 MHz channel was dedicated to nation in 2003 in New Delhi. A variety of programmes are being produced by GyanVani, Lucknow, for promotion of education through electronic media.

IITs to offer MBBS, have foreign faculty, Students

Recognizing the long-standing demand by many IITs and recommendations by various committees, the IIT Council on Friday gave its consent to the institutes to start courses in medicine.

But the IITs have a follow a slew of procedures before they can start medicine course. To begin with, they will have to seek approval of the Medical Council of India.

Frankfinn Launches 4 New Air-Hostess Training Courses

Frankfinn Institute of Air Hostess Training has announced the launch of four new “scientifically designed” short-term part-time courses for graduates and 12th-class-pass students.

There are two courses on offer for graduates or those in the final year of graduation – Frankfinn Certificate course in Airport Ground Service (3 months) and Frankfinn Certificate course in Aviation & Hospitality Services (4 months), to prepare students for aviation and hospitality industries.

Sibal to visit China, new education ties in offing

Notwithstanding the chill in ties over the visa row, China and India are looking to forge new ties in the field of education with Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal heading for China on a five-day visit.

Sibal will represent India at the World Economic Forum meet to be held in Tianjin in China Sep 13-15. The HRD minister will, however, leave Sep 11, two days before the summit begins.

CBSE Introduces New Courses

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced three new courses for the current academic session 2010-11 for class XI and XII students. These include Mass Media Studies (academic/vocational), Geospatial Practices (vocational) and Hotel Management and Catering Technology (Vocational).

A MoU to offer Hotel Management and Catering Technology courses in CBSE schools was signed between the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT) and CBSE recently. 26 CBSE schools have opted for this vocational course, which has started as a pilot project.
